Feeling Quiet?!?!

I know, those of you who know me are thinking, HUH?  Yeah, I'm never quiet.  Just ask anyone who has ever run within 100 yards of me.  Even if you're leaving me in the dust, I will probably still try to talk to  you.  But I'm feeling a bit wordless today...

Got in a nice 4.5 this morning with my Tuesday running group.  It felt good, and though I had intended to make today a double run and meet Emily at the gym... Paige developed a concerning cough - which I'm now fairly certain is nothing, but I hate taking her to Kid's Club and potentially exposing other kiddos.  Pretty sure she just has some allergy crud.  She is, after all, a miniature version of her momma.

I also ran for the first time today in my new Brooks Ghost 3s.  They felt light and speedy compared to my Asics, which feel more cushioned (yes, that's as technical as I'm capable of being).  So I looked up the weights.  My tried and true Asic Gel-Nimbus weighs 9.8oz, and the Brooks Ghost 3 weighs 9.2oz.  Now, knowing how in-tune I am with my body, of course I could tell the difference in 0.6oz!  Seriously, though... why do they feel so different?  Is it how the weight is distributed?  Has anyone else used both of these shoes and have a comparison?  I like them both for different reasons, but I intend to keep the rotation going for the next 6 months or so until both pairs die, and then I'll decide which I really prefer (or maybe I won't???).

This week is light since I have half marathon #5 this weekend.  When I signed up for my first half, I figured it was a one time thing... MAYBE I could've fathomed doing it once a year.  I never figured that I'd sign up for them casually on a whim and just get out there and do it.

(See, told you I am never wordless... even when I think I'm wordless...)

Don't forget my Ryder's Sunglasses Giveaway.  It ends this Friday, the 24th.

Ha! I signed up for half-marathon #5 this weekend too! (The Shamrock Half in VA Beach in March -- unfortunately, that's the next half in these parts of town).

Maybe the older shoes just weigh more because of accumulated dust? (You know like they say, a mattress weight doubles in a few years from all that crap?)

Do you have a food scale? I'd totally use it to try to weigh both and see what the real difference is!

Is it the Heels and Hills Half? If so, that is going to be my first half. If you want to run with a stranger I would love to have someone to talk to. I was just going to go out with the 2:20 pace group. I was thinking between 2:20 and 2:30 is where I would fall for my first. sherrybtx at yahoo dot com.

Carla- My Asics are now new too. I do have a good scale though. Can't believe no halves until March. November thru March is prime race season in Texas.

Jenn - :-P

Sherry - I'm running with Jenn, but we'd love to meet you and run with you. I'll e-mail. My goal time is 2:20ish. Jenn is a lot faster than me, but this is her first half, and I think she intends to humor my slow pace. ;-)

I switched from Nike Equalon to Asics Nimbus and had the same reaction as you. How can they feel THAT much lighter! So I don't know the answer. Do ounces really matter? Dunno.

My parents did Hills & Heels last year. Good luck and have a blast!

I'll see y'all out there at Heels. I'm leading the pace group for 2:40, so come find me - I'll be wearing a pink balloon attached to me somehow! good luck!

I got suckered into buying a pair of Brooks and I didn't like them at all. I hope I just bought the wrong pair. I am a tried and true Nimbus girl.

6oz difference at the end of long legs. You're an engineer, I think you can figure it out. Think leverage.

The same thing happened to me. I figured I'd do 1 marathon. Then I fell in love with running and one of my running teammates. Now it's 10 or 12 races a year.
