I finished!!!

My body did NOT cooperate today.  I'm convinced it had a lot to do with hydration/nutrition... but I finished.  5:12.  I will never feel the same about my quads again.  What they did to me today was devastating.  I think I had tears in my eyes the last 10 miles - and I'm still not sure if it was "what went wrong?" or "make this end." or "oh my goodness, this hurts".

But a special shout-out to Marathon Maiden, who I happened to spot right before the start and meet for a whole 10 seconds... she posted a 3:06.  Placing 8th woman overall and 2nd in her age group.  (And this is a HUGE race... 7,000 marathoners.)

More shout-outs to come tomorrow with a full race report... if I ever wake up from my marathon-induced coma.

I'm so sorry to hear that your body wasn't working for you. Were your quads cramping or just in pain? Hope you get a chance to rest and take care of yourself Lesley.

Woohoo, Lesley!!!! How does it feel to have 26.2 under your belt? Bask in the afterglow, girlfriend! That sucks you hurt more than one should during a marathon. I can't wait to read your report! What was your goal time?

26.2! 26.2! 26.2! You did it, you did it!! Even with pain staring you down in the face for much of the race you did it! You're in an elite class, and a club that only the best get into - and you did it!!

Congrats, what an amazing accomplishment and I'm so inspired to keep going because of your journey!!

I've had both quads cramp on a bike rally before and the last 11 miles was agony. I can only imagine how much worse that would be in running. Congrats on gutting out the finish.

Don't search too hard for a cause --- it's hydration, plain and simple. You'll be more aware in the future and be a better runner for it.

Finishing is what matters!

Though Marathon Maiden kicks ass, I had to laugh at your comment of a "huge race" with 7,000 people! That's a smallish race around these parts -- my marathons had 45,000 and 35,000 people! 7,000 is small in the marathon world :)

Lesley @ racingitoff.com said...

The race is 22,000 participants… but many of those are half-marathoners and relay runners. It took me 45 stinkin’ minutes to get to the start line!!! It's still significantly smaller than the major marathons... but by far, the largest marathon in Dallas.
