Tip of the week: Sunscreen!!! It's already getting warmer (especially here in Texas), and the layers are coming off. I'm going to admit upfront, that I hate sunscreen. I just don't like the feeling on my skin. But you have to face facts, if you are a runner, you likely spend a lot of time outside exposed quite directly to the sun. We're all running to stay healthy and live longer, so we should be protecting ourselves while we're out there doing it. Be safe folks... protect your skin! It's easy to forget, but when you go on a long run for 1 or 2 hours, sometimes even 3 or 4 if you're training for a marathon, that is a long time.
My favorite sunscreen for running is Mission Athletecare. You might recall I did a review for them awhile back. But this is one of those products, for me, that just stuck. I absolutely love their anti-sting face stick. I can sweat like crazy in this Texas heat and I don't feel it running and certainly don't get burning eyes from sunscreen running into them. For my body, I love the ultra sweatproof lotion. I've done 3 and 4 hour runs covered in this stuff on days I've seen people with awful sunburns and there is only the faintest tan line. This stuff lasts and stays on. Good stuff.
But the point here is, find one you like, test it out on some shorter runs, and then start using it! (If you have a brand you use and love, feel free to leave a comment for other readers to get ideas of some brands to compare.)
Motivational Quote of the Week:
Inspired by a week with a lot of racing going on...
“Don't be afraid to give up the good to go for the great.”
-Steve Prefontaine-
Hmmmm... considering a recent conversation about my own marathon goals for June, maybe I should re-read that quote a few more times. Have a great week of running!

Oh WOW! THAT was a great quote! L.O.V.E.D. IT!
how timely. i just got burnt to a crisp over the weekend and am suffering the consequences. ouch!
Have seen them at expos and running stores, but never bought any. Will definitely have to give them a try since it doesn't take much time outside to turn me into a lobster! And it's already too warm to wear long sleeves...
Did I tell you I met Steve Prefontaine's sister? And she hugged me and I cried on her shoulder? No? I didn't? Well I DID!!
Yeah, yeah, my mom saw him run. ;)
I really need to pull out the sunscreen. Monday at work someone commented that my nose looked pink. Then I thought back to Sunday and realized I did spend 13.1 miles out in the sun without anything to protect my skin. Bad girl!
Thanks for the tip. I am guilty of not using sunscreen. I know I'm bad. I tan so easy just dont think to use it. If I had fair skin I probably would.
