Dear Non-Runners

Dear Non-Runners:

Yes, I have less than 10 toenails.  No, it doesn't hurt or bother me.

I know I just ran a race last week.

I have, in fact, been up and running for potentially hours before you roll out of bed, so please don't judge my early bedtime.

No, no one is chasing me.  Yes, I pay money to torture myself for multiple hours.

A marathon is 26.2 miles.  All 365 days of the year and in every country, it is still 26.2 miles.

Yes, I occassionally eat like a horse.  I also just burned off all those calories and then some.

I'm sorry about turning down your invite to {insert event here} but I have been training for this race for 6 months, and I feel justified turning the event down so I can continue my training, as needed.

Don't guess my time.  You're probably wrong.  I'm probably much slower than you think.  And I'm ok with that.  I still put in the effort and work.

No, I did not win.  Yes, everyone gets a medal.  No, I don't think that's stupid.  We all crossed the same finish line.

Thank you for your concern for my knees.  They are doing just fine.  Millions of people who aren't runners have knee problems.  I'd rather be healthy and take the risk.

I know I said I'd never run this distance again.  And I definitely know I vowed I would *never* run further.  I lied.  It happens.

Sincerely,
The Runner

My favorite part was about how it's 26.2 miles each time. :) I get "How long is this marathon?" question all the time. Also when I say I'm doing a 50 miler, I get the "How many days do you have to finish?" Wishful thinking :)

Hah, LOL here. These are all so true!

LOVE. IT.

I'm still at the 5k stage and always have to add the ".1". Just because I only run (walk actually) 3.1 miles doesn't meant that I'm okay with them calling it 3 miles.....that .1 is the hardest part of the race. I'm sure it's the same for 26.2. I/m not crazy/dedicated enough yet to try for the distance ;)

I love your blog

This really is the best post ever! As a newbie runner (1 yr old) I appreciate being in this elite, and yet open-to-everyone, club. Awesome!

Replace 26.2 with 70.3 or 140.6 and signed The Triathlete

"I know I said I'd never run this distance again" - I call it break up goggles, and it's 99% of the reason why anyone makes the same mistake twice...giving birth, running >1 marathon, running >1 triathlon, running >1 tough mudder, etc. You only remember the good parts, so you do it again...and remember the bad. THen forget them. And do it again.

Cute! Haha, there are some marathons that aren't 26.2 miles(Comrades, Breckenride, des Sables, Jungle, and I guess the Barkely Marathons don't count because of the 's'), so that question is kind of legitimate.

this is great. i was just thinking about writing something like this. i am battling a bit of a cold today but i am determined to get my training in if it is the stars. other things might have to be put on hold if i come home and then need to rest because i have committed to 26.2, others don't get that. perfect timing lady!
